Hilda L. Solis Learning Academy and Eastside Learning Center
Los Angeles, CA
A vacant three-story hospital built in 1929 was converted and renovated into two co-located facilities, the Hilda L. Solis Learning Academy (70,000sf) and the Eastside (adult) Learning Center (30,000sf). A new two-story gymnasium building (15,500sf) will also be constructed on the site. Located on 5.05-acres in a densely populated urban area, creative design strategies were used to satisfy multi-generational students, house a wide variety of educational programs in one renovated building, accommodate new technology, offer flexible spaces and provide the security needed to keep the adult learning center open 24-hours, year round. This project is being designed and constructed in several phases using the California Education Code Section 17406 Lease/Leaseback Design Build Approach.
