Architecture Day for ACE Students

IMG_6402 editedCSDA staff recently facilitated a successful mentorship event for ACE’s Architecture Day. The event, held at CSDA’s San Francisco office, included an overview of the architecture profession, client/consultant relationship communication, and a workshop for students to apply their knowledge to a real case study.

Through the workshop, students were able to gain hands-on experience and education from industry professionals, understand the different phases of the design process, and learn how to work effectively to meet clients’ needs.

The event included a case study, with the tasks including programming and massing models for Pier 30-32 (previously known as the new Warriors Stadium) site. The site was divided into five parcels – a boathouse, a community center, a firehouse, a mixed-use building, and a sports complex. Each of the five groups of students were responsible for developing a program and massing model based on the client wish lists and the analysis of site constraints from their previous site visit in February.

Victoria Yau, CSDA team member and ACE mentor, will be attending ACE’s Student Project Presentation Celebration on May 20, 2015 to support ACE mentees for their project presentations.

CSDA’s Ongoing Commitment to ACE

Since 2011, CSDA has been a proud supporter of the ACE Mentor Program of America. Throughout CSDA’s four-year partnership with ACE, we have facilitated multiple workshops, presentations, design competitions and summer internships for aspiring architects and designers located in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Oakland.

Victoria Yau, Tommy Tan, and Greg Baker of CSDA’s San Francisco office have teamed with other mentors from local Bay Area firms such as AECOM, SKS Developers, and ARUP in hosting weekly workshops at various locations for students to explore and collaborate with each other on various architectural, construction and engineering projects.

Diana Marquez and Daniel Kwak of CSDA’s Los Angeles office have teamed with design, engineering and construction professionals from Thorton Tomasetti, Clark Construction and Los Angeles World Airports to mentor students at Lennox Mathematics, Science & Technology Academy in Lennox, CA. Diana and Daniel are both participating in bi-weekly workshops to encourage and empower students with industry knowledge and experience.
