CSDA is conducting programming meetings to plan and design three new Science Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) buildings for Hayward Unified School District(HUSD). While many K-12 Districts in California are reconfiguring existing facilities to better support STEAM curriculum, HUSD’s buildings are one of the few STEAM new construction projects in the Bay Area.
CSDA competed Internationally with 21 design firms and was selected to prepare a master plan for the International School of Latvia (ISL) in Riga, Latvia. While the facility was built only five years ago, ISL has experienced a significant increase in enrollment thus creating the need for an updated campus master plan. Additionally, ISL is looking to increase classroom flexibility and create more spaces for student collaboration.
Recently, Randy DeVoto (Principal) and Mike Schoen (Associate) of CSDA visited the ISL campus to analyze existing building conditions, evaluate existing site conditions, and interview faculty and staff to develop a conceptual architecture program. These items will serve as a basis for the development of master plan design services.
As part of their first trip to Riga, Latvia, Randy and Mike enjoyed visiting several historical sites, experiencing the local culture, food and beautiful scenery.
CSDA has served as consultants to educational facilities planners worldwide and has completed 15 master plans for international school clients in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and South America.
CSDA provides acoustical design services for the City of Inglewood Residential Sound Insulation Program. Studies show that students perform better, stay in school longer, and enroll in higher level programs when parents, family and community members are involved in their education. CSDA has worked closely with the Vaughn Next Century Learning Center charter school campus and their renowned founder, Dr. Yvonne Chan, in designing buildings that serve not just as classrooms but as true hubs for the blending of education and community.
In the video below, hear from the students, parents, and teachers themselves on how Vaughn has affected their community and the lives of their students since its inception in 1993.
