CSDA provided acoustical measurement services at apartment units situated along the future Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) line to determine eligibility for participation in Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s (VTA) Residential Noise Insulation Program (RNIP). At qualifying units, CSDA provided acoustical design services utilizing acoustical products intended to reduce interior noise levels and assisted VTA with construction administration.
CSDA was retained to measure, calculate, and provide recommendations for environmental noise intrusion and mechanical noise at 829 Folsom Street. The building consists of 69 units over eight floors, with a restaurant space at the ground floor.
CSDA is providing acoustical consulting services for Grossmont College’s new 350-seat proscenium multipurpose theater, with drama, dance, and music components. The theater is also planned to be used as a community resource, for local and touring theater. Amplified music performances will include musicals, jazz bands, Afro Cuban ensembles, and rock ensembles.
Additional programmed spaces are the lobby, box office, gallery, offices, meeting room, makeup/classroom, dressing rooms, and green room. The acoustical design will incorporate an adjustable drapery system to tune the theater for the various uses. A series of overhead reflectors will direct useful sound reflections to the main level and balcony seating areas.
CSDA is working with the design team to provide acoustical consulting services for the SLAC Building 52 Accelerator Control Room and the Building 40 Research Support offices. SLAC is operated on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy by Stanford University.
For the SLAC Building 52 Accelerator Control Room, the key goals of the project are to verify that acoustical criteria contained in the existing Conceptual Design Report is being met and to summarize the project’s acoustical requirements. CSDA is also reviewing Design Development drawings and providing recommendations to meet the acoustical criteria. In addition, we are performing HVAC and reverberation time calculations.
The Building 40 offices consists of open plan, private office and conference rooms. We provided sound isolation recommendations, plumbing noise reduction guidelines, and HVAC noise analysis.
CSDA is providing acoustical consulting services for a two-story art and science center. The first floor houses a 250-seat theater, and the second floor contains offices and a science learning center. At the theater, we are providing detailed room acoustics recommendations, including input on room finishes, textures, and placement of materials. We are also providing provide sound isolation recommendations and HVAC noise/vibration reduction recommendations. Our work is closely coordinated with the theater and audiovisual consultants.
At the second floor, we are providing design input for sound isolation between spaces, HVAC/mechanical noise and vibration reduction, and room acoustics.
