Architectural design, community outreach, construction administration and sub-consultant management (i.e., mechanical/electrical, acoustical testing and hazmat) services were provided to acoustically modify more than 2,700 single- and multi-family homes impacted by aircraft noise from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys Airport.
To reduce the impacts of noise generated by aircraft from nearby General Mitchell International Airport, approximately 740 single- and multi-family homes are being acoustically treated using the single-parcel bid method. Consulting and management services for this multi-faceted, multi-year project include program management, architectural design, acoustical testing, environmental testing, construction management, homeowner outreach, grant administration, land acquisition assistance, navigation easement acquisition, homeowner sales assistance and Geographic Information Systems and document control systems development.
A noise analysis was conducted to determine the impacts resulting from the conversion of a United States Postal Service distribution facility into a San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (MTA) auto impound lot. Using the Federal Highway Administration’s Traffic Noise Model, projected noise levels were calculated for vehicles being towed to/from the site, as well as noise from weekly auto auctions of impounded vehicles and their impact on adjacent residences. Calculation results were compared to the Daly City General Plan Noise Element to determine if the proposed facility complied with the applicable standards.
Approximately 1,700 single family homes impacted by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) aircraft noise were treated under the RSMS which was awarded the Arizona Governor’s Heritage Preservation Honor Award (2009) for preserving Arizona’s prehistoric and historic resources and the Randy Jones Award for Excellence in Airport Noise Mitigation (2009 AAAE Airport Noise Mitigation Symposium). Services provided included program management, residential and historical home acoustical design, construction administration, Owner representation during construction, sub-consultant and Airport consultant management, community outreach/public relations, FAA grant application preparation and administration and financial/close-out reporting.
Acoustical treatments are being provided for Phoenix and Tempe places of worship, schools and community centers that were built before October 1, 1998 and are impacted by Sky Harbor International Airport aircraft noise. Services include program management, design and construction administration, community outreach, sub-consultant management, FAA grant coordination, administration and grant application preparation and construction closeout services. Acoustical treatments include noise reducing exterior/interior doors and windows, weather stripping, secondary roof and/or ceiling applications, attic insulation, acoustic baffles and mechanical and electrical upgrades, where needed.
