Hoover K-8 Community School: New Gym and Modernizations

In November 2015, voters of the Redwood City School District passed Measure T, a District-wide facilities improvement bond. CSDA Design Group was selected as the Architect for the modernizations at three campuses: the Hoover Community School, Clifford Elementary School and Henry Ford Elementary School. In addition, the scope of work included the design of a new Gymnasium for Hoover Community School.

The modernization work at the three campuses included security fencing and gates, toilet room upgrades, new classroom security door locks, fire alarm replacement, new food service freezer and refrigerators, new classroom finishes, painting, parking lot reconfiguration and ADA compliant path of travel upgrades.

The new gymnasium at Hoover is sized for a Middle School size basketball court with bleacher seating and a climbing wall. A PE classroom, Lobby and multi-occupancy restrooms complete the program. The building was designed to reflect the Multi- Cultural community of Redwood City and to serve as a much needed neighborhood center in this part of town.

The modernizations represent Phase 1 of the District’s Master Plan and CSDA Design Group worked closely with the District to develop the scope of work that met the District’s targeted budget through an iterative estimating and decision process.
